Apache License 2.0

Conzent OCI — the open-source core of Conzent — is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. It is one of the most widely used and permissive open-source licences in the world.

License: Apache License, Version 2.0 Licensor: Conzent ApS Licensed Work: Conzent OCI (the "Software") Full text: apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0

What You Can Do

The Apache License 2.0 grants you broad, irrevocable rights — royalty-free and with no expiry:

  • Use it for anything — personal, internal, or commercial. There are no restrictions on the field of use.
  • Self-host — deploy and run Conzent OCI on your own infrastructure to manage consent on your own websites, apps, and digital properties.
  • Modify and customise — change, extend, and adapt the Software to fit your needs, including integrating it with your own systems, analytics, tag managers, and ad-tech stack.
  • Redistribute — copy and distribute the Software or your modified versions, in source or compiled form.
  • Build products on it — including commercial products and services, with no royalties owed to Conzent.
  • Patent grant — the licence includes an express grant of patent rights from contributors.

Your Only Obligations

When you redistribute Conzent OCI or a derivative, Apache 2.0 asks that you:

  • Keep the notices — retain the copyright, patent, trademark, and attribution notices from the source.
  • Include the licence — provide a copy of the Apache 2.0 licence with your distribution.
  • State your changes — mark any files you modified as changed.
  • Preserve the NOTICE file — if you distribute a derivative, include a readable copy of the NOTICE attribution text.

That's it. There are no copyleft requirements — you are not obliged to open-source your own modifications.

Open Core

Conzent OCI is the freely licensed core of Conzent. It is a complete, production consent management system on its own.

Some advanced capabilities are not part of the open-source core and remain proprietary components of the managed cloud service — for example multi-tenant billing, agency management, A/B testing, and revenue-impact analytics. Running the managed cloud is how we fund development and keep the core free.

Branding

Conzent OCI ships with a "Powered by Conzent" link in the consent banner. Under the Apache 2.0 licence you are entirely free to remove or replace it. We do not require it — but if you keep it, it helps others discover the project, and we're grateful.

Trademarks and IAB Europe CMP ID

The Apache 2.0 licence covers the software, not our brand. It does not grant any rights to the "Conzent" name, logos, or other trademarks, nor to Conzent's IAB Europe Consent Management Platform (CMP) ID.

If you want to operate a fully TCF-certified consent solution, you must register independently with IAB Europe, obtain your own CMP ID, and comply with all applicable IAB Europe TCF Policies, Terms and Conditions, and technical specifications. Conzent makes no representations or warranties regarding TCF compliance for modified or derivative versions of the Software.

Warranty and Liability

The Software is provided "AS IS", without warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Conzent is not liable for any damages arising out of the use of the Software. See sections 7 and 8 of the full licence text for the complete disclaimer and limitation of liability.
