About Conzent

Conzent ApS is a Danish company on a mission to make privacy compliance free for every website on the internet.

Built in Denmark. Open by Design.

Conzent ApS was founded with a single conviction: cookie consent should be transparent, fair, and accessible to everyone — not just enterprises with deep pockets.

The consent management industry is broken. Most CMPs are designed to maximize "accept" rates through dark patterns, confusing interfaces, and deliberately bad UX. They profit when users click "Accept All" without understanding what they are agreeing to. We believe this has to change.

Our Mission

We are building the most transparent consent platform in the world. One where:

  • Users understand what they are consenting to, in plain language
  • Website owners get honest data about their visitors' preferences
  • Compliance is real, not theatre — meeting the spirit of GDPR, not just the letter
  • The technology is open, auditable, and self-hostable
  • The price is zero — funded by sponsorships, not paywalls

The Story Behind Conzent

Conzent was created by Lennart Øster, a developer with over 30 years of experience building for the web.

After running multiple large-scale affiliate and e-commerce sites, Lennart witnessed first-hand what happened when GDPR took effect in May 2018: companies rushed to monetise the law. Cookie consent — a basic legal requirement — became a SaaS product with enterprise pricing. Small websites, personal blogs, schools, and startups were expected to pay hundreds per month just to comply with regulations that were designed to protect people, not create new revenue streams for vendors.

In 2022, Lennart quietly began developing Conzent with a clear goal: disrupt the consent industry and its pricing. Not by undercutting competitors with a slightly cheaper product, but by challenging the very idea that compliance should cost money at all.

By 2026, the platform had matured into a fully certified CMP — IAB TCF v2.4 (2.3 + 2.2), Google Consent Mode v2, GDPR, CCPA — trusted by thousands of websites. Rather than compete on price, which is unsustainable in the long run, Lennart made the decision to release the core of the platform as open source under the Apache License 2.0 and to pursue a fundamentally different business model: sponsorships.

How Sponsorships Work

The idea is simple. Companies that share the belief that privacy infrastructure should be a public good can sponsor Conzent. Every euro in sponsorship revenue goes directly toward reducing the price of the managed cloud platform — until it reaches zero.

We are actively seeking sponsorships until we reach our goal of making compliance completely free for every website on the internet. If your company believes that compliance should not have a price tag, become a sponsor.

In 2026, we released the core of our platform as OCI — Open Consent Infrastructure. Anyone can download, inspect, modify, self-host, and build on a fully functional consent management system — it is open source under the permissive Apache 2.0 licence.

For those who do not want to run their own infrastructure, we offer a managed cloud version — with pricing that drops as sponsorships grow.
